It’s finally here, folks. The year is in the final countdown, and the holidays are already knocking at your door (figuratively speaking, if you’re wisely practicing social distancing).
But even with a pandemic that seems to get worse the further we get into it, the holidays will still barrel toward us with the forcefulness of every unexpected “gift” 2020 has given us so far. This year is no exception.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering what the heck you’re going to give this year. And who can blame you? We’ve all had way more on our minds than we ever anticipated for 2020…
So, here’s my gift to you this year (besides general words of encouragement):
We all need a little extra care this holiday season, so why not spread that mindfulness to the people you love most?
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I love our leafy friends. You just can’t go wrong with a splash of vibrant, lively green; it will brighten any space, no matter how dark.
Purchase a cactus for those who believe they could probably kill anything; they’ll have to try extra hard with a prickly desert friend. If you’re wondering where to pick up a unique plant friend for your loved one, I personally prefer visiting Patina in Wyoming, OH for one-of-a-kind pots and plants!
The warm light and comforting scents of a candle can help de-escalate the tension and stress this year brought into all of our lives. But really, who doesn’t want their space to feel like a spa?
These candles, like the plants above, are available at Patina in Wyoming, OH!
Whether we’re gathering together to share a meal or dining safe and solo, it’s always nice to set the table (a space we don’t often consider influential to our perception of our home). The next time your loved ones set their table, they could use these placemats and this tablecloth, reminding them of the value in slowing down to enjoy their space and the food they’ve prepared.
The world is gloomy, and the weather is, too. If you think someone you know is experiencing some form of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), or “winter depression,” they could benefit from a light like this. This particular light would look great on any table — a win-win!
If you or someone you know has the sniffles this winter, they probably need to keep a box of tissues on hand. Gift them a tissue box cover to encase the cardboard box they come in to make this daily household item just a little more fashionable! This gift is the epitome of giving someone something they may never have purchased themselves.
We’ve all been spending way more time on the sofa than we thought we would this year. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing! We might as well embrace this and cozy up with a well-made pillow and throw. I prefer adding accents like these from Tonic Living!
What we choose to wear is what we present to the world; it can be a direct representation of who we are and what makes up our personalities. I like to think of jewelry as wearable art, an extension and expression of oneself. Tell someone you love them by giving them jewelry that reminds you of them. It’s the ultimate mindful gift!
I’d say you’re not alone if you’ve discovered an abundance of chaos in place of a lack of organization in your space as you’re forced to work from home. Maybe someone you know is grappling with a similar battle, and you’d like to find their perfect solution. Consider exploring organizational pieces like this to maximize their space’s potential and bring some peace to their home.
When people ask for socks for the holidays, we can all understand the necessity of this; it’s the perfect gift when you need a reset on such an essential clothing item. This should be applied to essential bedding and bath items, which also have the tendency to break down over time. Help someone reset on bedding, like these pillows and sheets, and bath essentials they’ll love for many years to come!
Of all five senses, we underestimate the power of scent more than any other. The scents we bring into our environments can directly affect our moods and productivity. Essential oils, depending on their ingredients, can produce both calming and invigorating effects. Gift these essential oils (possibly with an eye-catching diffuser) to someone looking to add more tranquility to their home. Follow my friend, Jenine, on Instagram to find out more!
Gift giving can sometimes feel like an impossible chore, especially in 2020. Take hold of the root of giving to those you love most; it’s a form of care and mindfulness that is extended to the people who’ve cared for you through this nightmare year.
This year, if you are able, take time to consider what gifts will truly improve the lives of others.
We’re setting out soon into another year of unknowns — good and bad. Wrap your loved ones in thoughtful gifts as we prepare to get through 2021, together.
Let this blog post be the first gift you give! Share this blog with friends and family who are looking for a little holiday inspiration.
